19 of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one titles have been won on hard courts

A resurgent Medvedev secured his maiden title for over two years with success over opponent Moutet in the competition title decider.

The athlete, a ex- top-ranked player, has had a difficult year, managing just one win at the major tournaments and suffering a difficult moment at the American major.

The player's varied form on the professional circuit - and difficulties with his serve in specific - resulted in him exiting of the world's top 10 and finally separating with long-term trainer his previous coach.

Presently collaborating with his coach and his other coach, Medvedev has steadily progressed in the past month - culminating in a tightly fought three-set win over Frenchman Corentin Moutet.

This marks Medvedev's initial championship after the Rome competition and maiden on a hardcourt since spring of the previous year.

Success also signifies the Russian has achieved twenty-one victories at twenty-one distinct tournaments.

"For the first time I am participating in a tournament with my children at once, so to win a trophy is really nice," said world number 14 the champion.

"This victory is in tribute of my second daughter Victoria, because the first title I achieved when my child Alisa was born was for her."

The tennis star, the former major winner, had failed in his past six championship matches, featuring in the German tournament earlier this year.

The player's retrieving play style and recurring emotional displays on court had prompted some to wonder if his capacity to compete at the highest level was finished.

But the athlete has made changes in the last few weeks, striving to advance forward and play positively, supported by an enhanced serving game.

He recovered from a break down in the opening set against the challenging Moutet, winning 4 of the final five exchanges to take the lead.

The competitors exchanged service breaks in the second set before the Frenchman, striving for his maiden ATP Tour title, gained dominance to create a decider.

He saved four early-game break points in a tight deciding set before the champion won the break to 15 to serve for the match.

Suitably, Medvedev clinched the win with a shot at the front of the court, with the Frenchman failing to control a volley after over two and a half hours.
