Slot admits it's going to be a tough job to revive faltering Liverpool

Arne Slot stated that he encounters a major test to uplift Liverpool following Manchester United prevailed at Anfield for the initial occasion in more than a decade, handing a fourth consecutive setback on the struggling Premier League champions.

Wastefulness and Set-Piece Issues

The team's manager attributed profligacy in front of goal and further set-piece lapses from his squad for their most recent defeat, as the opposing coach enjoyed the initial consecutive league victories of his time with the club.

The United defender, whose decisive header ensured victory, confessed it was "humiliating" that United had required 51 matches to attain that statistic under Amorim.

Wasted Openings

The Liverpool coach claimed it was unthinkable for Liverpool to be defeated in a contest in which they generated so many golden opportunities. Cody Gakpo struck the crossbar thrice and failed to convert a gilt-edged opportunity to net a second equaliser in the 87th minute. But having fallen to Crystal Palace, another team, Chelsea, and now United, the Dutch coach conceded he has a mission on his hands to halt Liverpool's harmful sequence.

Ongoing Challenges

"As a manager, you continuously face obstacles," said Slot. "When you start and you must secure victories, when joining a more prominent side, being the successor of Jürgen Klopp and people are claiming: 'This is the largest hurdle you have ever faced.' Now we have lost four times in a row and that is likewise a difficulty. The career of a soccer coach is also an ongoing challenge."

Belief and Execution

"Yet, does our self-assurance diminish? I do not observe that currently because all fixtures we've lost we were able to create in the latter period an incredible number of openings. If we can keep producing what we are accomplishing and possibly do a few things a slightly improved, then there is every reason to expect that we will secure football games again. Of course there is the other aspect that, apart from the couple of scores we conceded, we yielded possibly two or three more openings. This is continually the battle we have when we are trailing by a goal, then you must assume a bit more of a chance."

Referee Controversy

Slot believed the umpire, the ref, should have halted play before the scorer's early goal because of a head injury sustained by Mac Allister. The team member required four stitches in a gash. But the head coach stated: "The key point I ought to do now is not complain at these kind of things. We needed to execute much better subsequent to Mac Allister was on the floor but the health care of the athletes is important and if a player must have medical attention, you would hope all parties understands he required attention. But we might have performed better and that is not the cause we lost. The reason is we squandered way too many openings to secure victory in a match."

Opposing Views

Ruben Amorim declared United's fight and poise was essential to triumph at Anfield, particularly after the Liverpool player drew level for Liverpool in the latter stages, but insisted the best outcome of his unsettled reign would not change any objectives for the campaign.

The United head coach commented: "I prefer you guys [the media] to keep going with the perspective that you have so I shall not increase the target. What we have to accomplish is attempt to win three consecutive matches now and ignore Champions League places or top six. We already said we want to go to international tournaments. This doesn't change nothing. We are the unchanged squad we were at kick-off."

Squad Responses

Harry Maguire, though, called the victory as "massive" for United as they finally achieved back-to-back Premier League victories under the manager. United's match-winner said: "It's shameful honestly. It's not a figure that we need to mention because it is an embarrassing stat to have."

"Now that's out of the way, we attempt and make it three [wins] on the weekend against Brighton, because we must start showing a little more regularity together. The past few campaigns we'd produce a showing like this and the next match we decline again. We have created a baseline, there are many aspects we can enhance."

"Our coach strives for perfection so I'm sure he will want us to execute more effectively than we performed in the second half. Great effort, great spirit, significant victory, but as always we must proceed again."
